2025-2026 SEASON REGISTRATION: If your swimmer will be joining us in the Fall, registration will open tomorrow (Tuesday, June 24)  with priority registration for those currently on the team.  The system will open to the public on July 1.  Be sure to register ASAP to secure your preferred location/group/time.  All swimmers in ALL groups will need to register for the new season.  Swimmers are NOT automatically enrolled in the new season.

SPECIAL SWIM LESSONS ADDED: Has your swimmer ever wanted to try the Endless Pool?  Coach Izzie has added some lessons to the events page.  Come try it tomorrow, Tuesday, June 24 and signup here under “job signups”.

JOHN MUIR UPDATE: The district is still waiting on the part to be delivered from the manufacturer.  As soon as I know when we will shift back to John Muir from Lincoln, I’ll let you know!  I appreciate your patience while we work with many different departments at the district level.

MEET GUIDES: For those who have RSVPed for this weekend’s meets, be sure to check your email for the meet guides coming later this week with all the details.  If your plans have changed and your swimmer is no longer able to attend, please let us know via email so the coaches aren’t searching the deck for them.

COLLEGE ESSAY SERIES: As part of their return to BAY in the summer, we’ve asked some of our college swimmers to share their thoughts on a variety of topics.  Enjoy their wisdom, as many have been on our team for more than half their lives!

WHAT BAY HAS DONE FOR ME, by Marissa Carvajal (Pioneer HS ‘24, Purdue University ‘28): Swimming since I was seven years old on BAY has prepared me tremendously for my first year of college at Purdue. The skills I learned through swimming consisting of persistence, self accountability, and time management made my freshman year a smooth transition as I have used all those skills while on campus.

My first semester classes were harder than expected in terms of not getting a perfect score my first try around, which is what I was used to in high school. That’s where persistence came in. During swim, I learned that in order to eventually succeed, sometimes you had to fail and try again. I applied this skill to my classes, turning some assignments multiple times, until I got a good score, trying different approaches as I went.

It’s very important in college to know how to hold yourself accountable, a skill learned in swim early on. If you don’t show up to practice, your times won’t get better. It’s the same in college. In order to see good results in classes, you have to put in the work, and realize that if you don’t, the results won’t be what you expect.

Time management also plays a big role in college. Some classes may have a big final project that you know about months ahead of the due date, and you have to manage your time and not procrastinate. This is a skill I learned in swim and got even better at during my time at Purdue so far.

Swim has taught me countless skills that I now use in my day to day life at college.
